1. Information We Collect
Health Data
IBD Navigator allows you to track various health metrics including but not limited to:
- Symptom data (pain levels, bowel movements, mood, energy)
- Medication information and adherence tracking
- Health notes and observations
- HealthKit data (when authorized by you)
Important: All health data is stored locally on your device using Core Data. We do not have access to this information, and it is never transmitted to our servers.
Technical Data
IBD Navigator collects limited analytics data to improve app functionality and user experience. This data is anonymized and does not include any personal health information:
- App usage patterns (which features are used, session duration)
- Feature interactions (button clicks, screen views)
- Performance metrics (app crashes, loading times)
- Device information (iOS version, device model - no device identifiers)
Important: Analytics data is completely separate from your health data. No personal health information, symptoms, medications, or other sensitive data is included in analytics collection. All analytics data is anonymized before transmission.
2. How We Use Your Information
Health Data
Since all health data remains on your device, we do not "use" your health information in any way. The app processes your health data locally to:
- Display your health trends and insights
- Generate personalized recommendations
- Send medication reminders (if enabled)
- Export data for your healthcare providers
Analytics Data
We use the anonymized analytics data we collect to:
- Optimize app performance and fix crashes
- Understand which features are most helpful to users
- Improve user experience and app functionality
- Make data-driven decisions about future features
- Identify and resolve technical issues
3. Data Storage and Security
- Local Storage: All of your data is stored locally on your device using Apple's Core Data framework. This data is protected by your device's security (passcode/Face ID/Touch ID), iOS sandboxing, and encryption at rest.
- iCloud Sync (Optional): If you enable iCloud sync, a copy of your app data (e.g., symptoms, medications, appointments, notes, and relevant app settings) is stored in your private iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit. iCloud data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple. We do not operate servers for your data and we do not have access to your iCloud-stored information. You can turn iCloud sync on or off at any time in the app.
- HealthKit and iCloud: HealthKit‑sourced data that the app reads is not included in iCloud sync.
4. HealthKit Integration
- What We Read (With Permission): With your explicit consent, the app can read select Apple Health data such as steps, heart rate, resting heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), respiratory rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO₂), sleep, active energy, distance, flights climbed, and body temperature to display relevant metrics and insights.
- What We Write (With Permission): If you choose, the app can write your body weight (body mass) to Apple Health. The app does not write your symptom entries or other non‑weight data to HealthKit.
- On‑Device Only: HealthKit data is accessed only on your device via Apple's approved HealthKit APIs. We do not transmit HealthKit data to our servers (we do not operate analytics or data collection servers) and we do not include HealthKit‑sourced data in iCloud sync.
- Exports You Choose: If you generate an export (e.g., a PDF report) and choose to share it, the export may include HealthKit‑derived values you selected. Exports are created on your device, and you control where and how they are shared.
- Your Control: You can change or revoke Health permissions at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Health > IBD Navigator.
5. Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, or distribute your personal health information to any third parties. However, we do share anonymized analytics data with trusted service providers:
